“Secret Dinner” at Trump’s: Which Financial and Technology Moguls Were Invited to the Table with the Presidents of China and the US

When the presidents of the United States and China sit at the same table, the world’s attention is focused on diplomacy. When bank and technology company executives join them, the business community tries to read something more into it: in which direction will capital, trade and business rules move?

A state dinner at the White House, announced for September 24, 2026, in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is bringing together precisely such a circle of guests. The term “secret dinner” describes the exclusivity of the gathering, but the event itself has been publicly announced. According to reports so far, it is a dinner held as part of the state visit, and the presence of business leaders does not mean that all of them will take part in the official talks between the two presidents.

Among the names attracting the attention of the financial world is Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase. Reuters reported that he was invited to the dinner. The importance of his bank in preparations for the meeting can also be seen in the choice of its headquarters as the venue for talks between U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. The bank provided the space, but according to the same report, it did not participate in the substance of the talks.

For the business community, Dimon represents the part of the economy that finances investment, connects companies with capital markets and assesses risk on a daily basis. His presence can be viewed as a reminder that relations between Washington and Beijing have a direct impact on the banking sector as well.

Jane Fraser, CEO of Citigroup, is also among the expected guests. Alongside her and Dimon, Reuters also names Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer. This broadens the circle of business interests from finance and technology to the pharmaceutical industry. These are announced participants; actual attendance should be distinguished from previously reported invitations and plans.

Particular attention is being drawn to Elon Musk, Jensen Huang and Tim Cook. Their companies have concrete interests linked to the Chinese market. Tesla generates significant revenue there, Apple is deeply connected to Chinese manufacturing and consumers, while Nvidia faces restrictions on sales of advanced chips. MarketWatch also reports that Citigroup is awaiting Chinese approval to conduct securities business for which it submitted an application in 2021. Behind the protocol smiles, therefore, are questions of market access, permits and business revenues.

According to a Forbes report, the announced guests also include Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman of OpenAI, as well as Sundar Pichai of Google. Tim Cook is described in that report as Apple’s executive chairman and its former CEO. Such a lineup of guests demonstrates just how important the technology industry has become in relations between the two powers.

What can be expected from the meeting? According to an Associated Press report, the topics of the visit include tariffs, artificial intelligence and the supply of rare earth elements. The possibility of a limited easing of certain tariffs has been mentioned, but this is a possibility under discussion, not an agreement that has already been reached.

Our assessment is that the value of dinners like this for business leaders lies primarily in the opportunity for direct conversation. Companies want to understand governments’ intentions before making decisions about new factories, investments or entering a market. Political leaders, on the other hand, can hear how their decisions affect businesses. An invitation to the table, however, is not in itself evidence of preferential treatment or a guarantee of a future contract.

For companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this meeting is worth following through its concrete results. Changes in trading conditions between major economies may indirectly affect purchasing prices, equipment availability, delivery times and demand from European partners. How strong that impact will be depends on the content of any agreements and their implementation.

At StandardPrva, we view such events through the questions that matter to our clients: What is changing in their costs, contracts, financing and business plans? A photograph from the dinner may attract attention. For the economy, what ultimately matters will be what is translated into decisions afterward.
